Community

The communities you choose to participate in, the environment where you work, the people who you work with, the causes you support and the projects you work on are all very important. This is why Zero Strategist has chosen to set up shop in the city of Portland, Oregon amongst the thriving communities and cultures. Also, Portland is the home of a large and growing open source programming communities in the United States. A lot of the software we love and use is developed or currently being developed here. We want to be where the innovation is happening, so we can help make it happen.

Community is extremely important to us. This is why we do pro bono work, donate our time, go to community events, support local small and medium size business, give to growing list of great causes, have virtual offices, recycle, get our energy only from renewable green power sources and participate in a variety of online communities.

“…the concept of Community no longer has geographical limitations, as people can now virtually gather in an online community and share common interests regardless of physical location.” source

Many people think about or experience community in different ways and with the evolution of the web community has become dynamic, ever changing. We have found that the following definitions are a useful framework for thinking about community -

Definitions of Community

“A group of people living in a particular local area.”

“Common ownership.”

“A group of people having cultural characteristics in common.”

“The body of people in a learned occupation.”

“A group of interdependent organisms inhabiting the same region and interacting with each other.”
